Creation

By Nomi, illustrator of Purple Leaves, Red Cherries and mother of two.

Nine months pregnant with my first child, I found myself working long hours in the design department of a national newspaper.

I couldn’t sustain this lifestyle as a mother. But would I ruin my career if I gave up all that I had created for myself in the industry?

Motherhood came and revealed new emotions in me. I needed to express myself without boundaries. I returned to painting. It was my passion.

I poured onto canvas and wood the words I could not speak.

I worked around my baby, creating a flexible work schedule and opening my own studio.

Ten years on, I expertly juggle my studio time with looking after my children’s needs.

And I know that it is motherhood that freed my creative spirit and allowed me to become the artist I am today.

Nomi-
Your ability to live without boundaries and juggle expertly as a mom is so inspiring. I love the idea of motherhood and freedom of self-expression being so closely connected.
Thank you!

Nomi! The book is a treasure and your drawings are as beautiful as always…You know that i´m a fan…
I wish I could have had this book 13 years ago, when my first daughter was born! The pieces are so real, and yet so inspiring. I truly hope to see it translated into Spanish some day!

Such great talent Nomi! It’s fantastic that your pregnancy and entrance into motherhood allowed us to meet and work together – it has been an inspiring journey. Thank you (and essentially thanks to your kids!) . . . and to Tania and Andrea.

If I was a writer, or a singer or a poet, I would dedicate a poem to you that would demonstrate how PROUD I am of you, my little and big NOMI. I hope you will continue to create and develop yourself in this area that you love so much and be successfully recognized by the whole world.
Kisses from your Mom and your Papino.
